If you love the ocean and have the resources to retire there and live your dream that is wonderful!
But, if you are a retiree on a fixed income, you need to look at your finances first. There are costs involved in living near salt water. Metals, water heaters and AC will oxidise. Roofs do not last as long.
Can you afford the home insurance, taxes and flood insurance?
Are you be able to abandon your house during a severe weather event, and live elsewhere for awhiles? If your house is totaled, you need to know your insurance policy to see what you are covered for and what your deductible is.
If you have the needed resources, Great! If you think that you may not have the retirement resources to live by the ocean, maybe you should look into moving to another area.
